Overview
To provide primary care physicians in East Texas with a comprehensive update on cardiovascular conditions that are commonly encountered in daily practice.    The latest clinical trial evidence and clinical guidelines will be discussed along with case presentations illustrating how to incorporate the guidelines into clinical practice.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Define what is atrial fibrillation
  2. Describe different methods to describe atrial fibrillation
  3. Review pitfalls of early diagnosis of atrial fibrillation
  4. Describe end of life issues physician commonly encounter
  5. Discuss gender and race related differences in terms of patient expectations
  6. Review the importance of end of life issues to patients and discuss ways to have open, honest discussions with them
  7. Describe the current state of TAVR for aortic stenosis
  8. Review the clinical trials supporting TAVR as a treatment for aortic stenosis
  9. Summarize the unmet needs and ongoing clinical studies in these populations
  10. Review the data for the effects of GLP-1 RA'S and SGLT2 I'S with regard to cardiovascular and kidney outcomes
  11. Review the evolution of diabetes guidelines from targeting glucose control to targeting clinical outcomes risk mitigation
  12. Summarize contemporary society recommendations and guidelines with respect to cardiorenal risk intervention of antihyperglycemic therapies
  13. Introduce and define key concepts in data science
  14. Describe issues around how to make sense of "big data" in clinical medicine
  15. Define new skills needed to work in roles that combine biomedicine with computational sciences
