Overview
The Pediatric Journal Club is a collaborative learning forum designed to engage faculty, residents, and medical students in the critical appraisal of current research in pediatrics. Each session features one or more recent articles selected for their relevance to clinical practice, medical education, or health policy affecting children and families. Through guided discussion and mentorship from faculty facilitators, participants learn to evaluate study design, methodology, statistical validity, and applicability of results to real-world pediatric care. Emphasis is placed on evidence-based medicine, lifelong learning, and the ability to translate research into clinical reasoning and quality improvement. The Journal Club also fosters interprofessional dialogue and vertical learning among all levels of trainees and faculty, promoting shared inquiry and mentorship. By participating regularly, attendees strengthen their understanding of pediatric literature, enhance their skills in scholarly discussion, and contribute to a culture of continuous learning within the department.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Critically appraise pediatric research articles by identifying study design, methodology, strengths, limitations, and the validity of conclusions.
  2. Interpret and apply evidence-based findings from current pediatric literature to improve clinical reasoning and decision-making in patient care.
  3. Integrate principles of biostatistics and epidemiology to evaluate the quality and relevance of pediatric research studies.
  4. Engage in scholarly discussion and collaborative learning by effectively communicating and debating evidence-based perspectives with peers and faculty across different levels of training.

Accreditation
The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler is accredited by the Texas Medical Association to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
