Overview
The University of Texas at Tyler School of Medicine is committed to fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing within the healthcare and research community. As an institution with a strong foundation and commitment to clinical management, clinical investigation, and translational research onMycobacterium tuberculosis and nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) pulmonary disease, we are proud to host this inaugural event. This symposium aims to bring together physicians, nurses, pharmacists, researchers, and other allied health professionals from diverse disciplines to engage in critical discussions, learn about the latest research, and share best practices in tuberculosis and NTM care. The goal of this UT Tyler Symposium on Mycobacteria is to increase awareness regarding the epidemiology, various clinical presentations, recommended workup, and treatment options for both M. tuberculosis and NTMs, including M. avium complex (MAC) and M. abscessus, as well as emerging areas of research. The symposium will bring together experts, researchers, and clinicians to share insights, foster collaboration, and explore current and emerging topics in this field. 

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Awareness reading new and upcoming treatments for mycobacterial diseases
  2. Updates for new drugs in the pipeline
  3. Current research in immunology related to NTM infections
  4. Current research in bioinformatics models for mycobacterial infections
  5. Surgical approach to mycobacterial infections

Accreditation
The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler is accredited by the Texas Medical Association to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
