Overview
The bi-annual Emerging Issues in Occupational & Environmental Health and General Preventative Medicine.

Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, learners should be able to:


  1. Analyze current vaccination trends in the United States and contributors to vaccine hesitancy.
  2. Describe recent and current outbreaks of vaccine preventable diseases in the United States.
  3. Discuss the physician’s role in public health including the role of Local Health Authorities in preventing, identifying, and managing outbreaks of vaccine preventable diseases.
  4. Identify opportunities to partner with government, academia, labor, and industry to advance the safety, health, and wellbeing of workers.
  5. Improve management of public-private partnership.
  6. Identify and respond to trends affecting the successful operation of public private partnerships.
  7. Identify historical trends and issues with vector-borne diseases.
  8. Summarize One Health concepts and applications.
  9. Identify issues and solutions for vector borne disease prevention in underserved populations.
  10. Review the differences in testing performed by public health laboratories versus hospital laboratories.
  11. Identify the role that public health laboratories play in routine surveillance and outbreak response activities.
  12. Discuss potential ethical issues that may arise when working with individuals who may have been exposed to an infectious disease as part of an infectious disease investigation.

Accreditation
The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler is accredited by the Texas Medical Association to provide continuing medical education for physicians. 
The University of Texas at Tyler Health Science Center designates this live activity for a maximum of  5.5 AMA PRA Category 1 credits TM.   Participants should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.   This program is also designated for 1.0 hour of medical ethics and/or professional responsibility credit.

Objectives:

Describe the flow of data starting with the patient being seen in the clinic, to lab testing, resulting, and reporting of information.

Detail the background of wastewater surveillance and how it is currently being used locally, statewide and nationally to track population health.

Compare and contrast these methods of tracking infections (individual versus population health) and emphasize connections in these methodologies to improve outbreak detection and community/public health response.
