Overview
The bi-annual Emerging Issues in Occupational, Environmental and Preventive Medicine Conference.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Describe the incidence of cancer cases in the Florida firefighter workforce, discuss mechanisms of carcinogenic exposures among firefighters, discuss how basic and applied firefighter cancer projects translated into workers compensation and State-level cancer education policy
  2. Discuss Total Worker Health topics that are relevant to the COVID-19 response, consider how a Total Worker Health model can influence future workplace testing for infectious disease, see inside ‘black box’ of qualitative data coding, describe key principles of social marketing, apply principles of social marketing to COVID testing and other OSH areas, recognize companies’ differences in barriers to testing for COVID-19, discuss what companies’ actions are for future outbreaks, discuss key differences in responses by industry and company size
  3. Increase awareness of current, emerging, and re-emerging issues in occupational safety and health and the role of state-based public health surveillance, review reportable occupational conditions in Texas and the reporting process, discuss challenges and opportunities to improve occupational health surveillance capacity
  4. Discuss the after-action review of the pandemic public health response in Smith and surrounding counties, describe public health intervention measures and barriers to their implementation, discuss ethical dimensions of decision-making for stakeholders involved in the response
  5. Discuss AgriSafe’s Total Farmer Health? model, apply the Total Farmer Health? model to communicate mental health risk factors for agricultural producers and workers, identify AgriSafe’s mental health resources and professional development opportunities in health professionals to improve healthcare in agricultural communities,
  6. Identify our positionality as researchers, discuss community based participatory research (CBPR) and how it can move occupational health research forward, apply the CBPR model to existing projects
